What is a food chain?

A food chain shows how animals eat the plants and others animals that live around them.
A food chain usually starts with a plant. The plants gets eaten by an animal. The animal then gets eaten by a bigger animal. And so on!

Producers and consumers
Plants get their energy from the Sun. They are called producers because they make their own food.

Animals are called consumers because they eat plants and other animals. They do not make their own food.

Animals that eat other animals are called predators ( động vật ăn thịt). The animals they eat are called prey ( con mồi).

Animals can be put into groups based on the types of food they eat. Some animals called carnivores ( động vật ăn thịt) only eat meat.
Others are called herbivores ( động vật ăn cỏ). They only eat plants.
Animals that eat meat and plants are called omnivores ( động vật ăn tạp)

What do animals need to survive?
 In order to stay alive, all animals need three things: water, air and food.
Without these things, animals including human would not survive.
Để tồn tại, tất cả các loài động vật cần 3 thứ: nước, không khí và thức ăn.

All animals need to drink water to stay alive. Different types of animals do this in different ways. Zebras usually live in very dry places, so water can be hard to find.
