In good nick

When we see something that very old but still look new, we usually say " it's in good condition" but British people will say " it's in good nick". The phrase to describe anything else in good condition.

Examples:
1. I pick up a set of silver plates from an antique shop and they were in pretty good nick.
2. My grandpa loves his 1960s motorbike and has worked very hard to kept it in good nick.

Hôm nay, tôi tình cờ xem lại một status đăng vào những ngày cuối tháng 12 năm 2014 về bộ phim "He's just not that into you". Đây là bộ phim tình cảm hài kịch Holywood của đạo diễn Ken Kwapis, trong đó có sự diễn xuất của hai nữ diễn viên yêu thích của mình là cô đào nóng bỏng Scarlett Johansson và hấp dẫn Jennifer Connelly. Hơi tò mò, tôi tìm hiểu về cụm từ này thì phát hiện ra nó là một cách nói thông dụng của người bản địa. Vậy thì câu này có nghĩa là gì?

Tại thời điểm tôi tìm kiếm, Google thường cho kết quả là những bài viết liên quan đến bộ phim ở trên. Một số kết quả khác thì thường là những bài viết chỉ đến dấu hiệu mà chàng trai/cô gái không còn quan tâm đến bạn hoặc như 6 Signs He's Just Not That Into You, 11 Pieces Of Advice From “He’s Just Not That Into You” And Whether Or Not You Should Believe Them. Cuốn sách

He's Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys của tác giả Greg Behrendt và Liz Tuccillo cho bạn những lời khuyên bổ ích cho các chị em phụ nữ về phát triển mối quan hệ (relationship) với đàn ông, khi nào nên chấm dứt mối quan hệ đó. Nhưng chịu khó ngồi đọc, tôi tìm được một giải thích theo tôi là chấp nhận được cho câu tìm kiếm của mình, trên wordreference.com khá nổi tiếng.

Theo giải thích ở trên, từ into trong câu có nghĩa là "interested in. It refers to someone being sexually interested in another person". Có thể cắt nghĩa: một ai đó không còn thích thú đến ai/cái gì.

To be into something means to be interested in it, absorbed by it.
