Advanced idioms

Below are some idioms at C1 or C2 level.

in leaps and bounds (C2): If sth gets better in leaps and bounds, it improves very quickly.

His German has improved in leaps and bounds.

bits and pieces (C2) any small things of various kinds (nhung vat linh tinh, nhung thu lat vat)

There are all the other bits and pieces involved in a wedding: invitations, photos and car rental.

out of the blue (C1) if sth happens out of the blue, it is completely unexpected (Khong ngo, bat ngo)

Out of the blue, she announced that she was leaving.

pay tribute to sb (C2) praise sb (ca ngoi ai do, tuong nho den ai do, ton vinh ai do)

The minister paid tribute to the men who had fought the blaze.

bury yourself in sth (C2): give all your attention to sth (danh het su chu y, tam tri vao cai gi)

Some people bury themselves in their work when their relationships end.

turn over a new leaf (C2) start behaving in a better way (bat dau co hanh vi tot hon)

He says he's turned over a new leaf, but I have my doubts.
